How To Stick To Your New Year’s Resolutions For 2019

How To Stick To Your New Year’s Resolutions For 2019

It is insane how fast time flies. I cannot believe that we are more than halfway through 2019. For me, it felt like yesterday that I have composed a complete list of resolutions to attain this year. The feeling of time rushing by also made me realise how less progression I have actually made the first half year on some of the goals I have set. Do you also recognise this feeling? Do not worry, all is not gone. In fact, this is the moment to reflect and do some catching up instead of waiting until January next year. I have got you covered with these tips!

Acknowledge your progress
Do not neglect the things that you did attain and give yourself acknowledgement & compliments for these achievements. The fact remains that you have made progress, even if it was small, and that deserves to be celebrated. They form the courage and support that motivate you to achieve the rest of the goals. In addition, try to analyse how you have successfully achieved them. Can you see a pattern in the approaches you took which have led to successful attainments? Use them in your further attempts to score the rest of the goals.

Find out what has blocked you from attaining it
What were the restrictions that kept you from working towards the resolutions? These can be, for example, a lack of motivation & resources and the passing of certain deadlines. Can you do anything to take away the constraints? If the restriction is motivation related, try to keep the interest of achieving your goals high by visualising them and divide them into smaller chunks so that they are easier to attain.

Is there anything you can do to change the situation?
After you have clear in your head what the obstacles are, it is time to eliminate them and work further towards your goals. The best is that you could evaluate the previous half year to assess what actions have brought you closer to the goals and what needs improvements. Based on this, you can do more of what you have done well in the first part of the year and take on new endeavors to change what can be improved. Are you, for example, heading the right way but is it more an issue of putting more speed and devotion in it? Then to nail the goals, holding yourself to more frequent action is key for success. Remember that you still have four months left until the end of the year. Make commitments and plan per week & month what you are going to do in concrete terms.

Adjust the goals when needed
The goals you set for 2019 were largely dependent on the situation you were in at the beginning of the year. Remember that it was a snapshot. Every day you are changing and the situations & things around you are constantly reorganising themselves too. The goals you have set up at a specific moment and place might need to be tweaked as you come across situations that ask you to take a slightly different route. Reflect on your goals and see which parts you still agree on and which parts do not suit the current “you” anymore. Translate that into actions. Which actions you want to do more of and which ones you want to see yourself doing less of? Based on these, try to review your goals.

You still have time to make things happen
Do not feel distressed by the thought that the biggest part of the year to make changes has passed. Adjust the planning but do not give up on your resolutions. Allow yourself some space and forgive yourself if you have been put off track a bit from your goals. This can happen due to situations and priorities suddenly coming your way. You still have several months left to catch up.

With these tips, the remaining of 2019 is there for the taking. How are you getting on with your goals? Let me know in the comments section below.

Until next time!
