10 Simple Things That Make Me Smile

10 Simple Things That Make Me Smile

Despite my busy job as an online marketing consultant, I always try to squeeze time out to enjoy the simple things around me that make me smile. For me, this is one of the key ingredients to make both my personal and professional world work. It is the little things that make life complete and let you take a step back from your current occupations to see the broader picture of life. Do you want to know what these small things are? Read along!

Try out a new recipe
As a real foodie I do not only like to indulge in food but also to cook it myself. The whole process of cooking and sharing my edible creations afterwards with people I love, really give me such a satisfying feeling.

Buy fresh flowers at the local market
I always like to perk up my bedroom with fresh flowers. Every Saturday, I go to the weekly market in my hometown to pick out a nice bunch of fresh flowers. Flowers are a source of inspiration to me and it is lovely to look at them.

Make a stroll in my neighbourhood
I am a great enthusiast of strolling through the streets. So great to catch some fresh air and to come across familiar people, even if it is just for 10 minutes.

Burn my favourite candle
It is such a good feeling to return home and smell my favourite scent across the whole living place. Especially the combination of the glowing candlelight and its lovely smell warm up my heart and help me to unwind in a cozy and relaxing atmosphere.

Keep up with my own diary / book
I enjoy to daily reflect on my experiences which I use as inspiration in writing my own life story book. Whether to really publish it in the future or not, it is always good to write down the things that has happened to you and what lessons you have learnt from them. This is one way for me to express gratitude and count the blessings in my life. Besides this book, I also keep an ‘one line a day’ – five year memory book, that my little sister has bought me. In this diary, I capture my everyday moments, both ups and downs, everyday for 5 years. As mentioned in an earlier article, I use this also as an way to close my day in a relaxed way.

Read a good novel
I like to be brought to a completely different ‘place’ by a good book, one that surprises me with its story line. It is great way to informally soak up new insights and broaden my exposure.

Wear my favourite perfume
I love to smell like my favourite perfume. It is a great way to express my personality and it says something about myself as a person. My favourite scent gives me a feeling of familiarity wherever I am, and can boost my confidence level.

Treat myself with desserts
Every now and then, I like to go to a café to enjoy a piece of blueberry cheesecake to pamper myself during special occasions, such as celebrating great results at work.

Play my favourite playlist
Oh guys, what would I have been without music? It is an key inspiration for me, whenever I need inspiration or if my day could go better, I will play my favourite playlist.

Reorganising my closet
I am huge fan of giving my closet a clean-up and reorganisation from time to time. Not only do I regain a clear overview of all my clothes but I also get new outfit inspirations and ideas of supplementing my closet with new garments. It is also a great way for me to pack together the clothes that I do not wear anymore to give it to charity.

What are the simple things that make you smile? I’d love to read about them in the comments below.

Until next time!

Love always,
